Kerala celebrates Onam with great pride and joy, and each corner of the state echoes with the joyous sounds of native sports, art forms, processions and fairs. During Onam season all Keralites, regardless of caste and religion rejoice together and reaffirm the values of harmony and co-existence. The celebrations for Onam are on for 10 days, beginning with the Atham asterism of the Malayalam month Chingam. Every year the land decks up in anticipation of the beloved King. He was granted permission to visit his subjects and the land he once ruled every year during the Malayalam month of Chingam (August – September). He was sent to the nether world by Vamanan, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. His rule was supposed to be an era of peace and prosperity. His autobiography, Enniloode, is noted for its candour, humour and simplicity. He appeared in Bhoomi Geetham, a 1993 film directed by Kamal. Kunjunni returned to his native village in 1987 and became involved in social and cultural activities in the Thrissur area. He initiated three or four generations of aspiring writers into writing. Kunjunni handled the column for children in the Mathrubhumi weekly under the pseudonym 'Kuttettan'. He was known for writing short poems which appeared to be childlike in form, but conveyed a message. ![]()
